How to Prepare: Strategies That Actually Work
- Glance at the rule label on a fixed cadence. Every third or fourth item, one saccade. The habit costs milliseconds and deletes the test's main weapon.
- Name the attribute, not the item. Think red, not red triangle pair. Filtering at perception beats filtering at decision.
- Treat the highlight as a full stop. When the switch flickers, consciously reset: say the new rule once, then resume. Two slow correct items beat three fast wrong ones.
- Train with switch-dense sessions. Steady-state sorting improves nothing; sessions where the rule flips every handful of items train the expensive transition itself.
- Keep a beat slower than your maximum. Sorting at 90 percent of top speed leaves the margin that absorbs a surprise switch.
